Product Description

Cobi -4849 LCVP - Higgins Boat Historical Collection - World War II II 715 Elements 2 Figures Suitable for ages 8 and up Scale 1:35

In commemoration of the 80th anniversary of D-Day, a special official set featuring a commemorative logo will be released in 2024. This set allows you to preserve the memory of this significant event that greatly impacted the course of World War II in your own home! The Higgins Boat model built with Cobi building blocks faithfully reflects this historic vessel while maintaining the popular 1:35 scale. The landing craft, constructed with clamp blocks, features a completely new structure developed from scratch. The model measures 36cm in length. It features an opening ramp and detailed full hull. Movable elements include two cover-mounted machine guns, a pulley system that allows the front lamp to be lowered or raised, and other details such as a steering wheel, turbine, engine outlines, and an opening hatch for the lower part. The set uses permanent printing for durability! To display this beautiful model, a special display stand with a sign bearing the boat's name, made from clamp blocks, has been designed. The set also includes two figures depicting American infantry and inland boat crew members. Large American flags printed on the sides fly on the boat. For enthusiasts of history, military engineering, and clamp blocks, this special D-Day anniversary set means building history brick by brick. Landing craft, vehicles, personnel (LCVP), or Higgins boats are a type of landing vessel used for transport and landing operations, including small vehicles and soldiers, especially during World War II. They were extensively used during D-Day (June 6, 1944), Operation Torch in North Africa, the HUSKY operation in Italy, the Aleutian Islands, the Gilbert Islands, the Philippines, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa in the Pacific. The design was created by Andrew Higgins. Over 20,000 units have been produced by various manufacturers. Most structures are made primarily of plywood, making the boats very affordable, easy to assemble, and lightweight, but they did not offer protection against gunfire. Thanks to a flat base, a specially designed retractable front ramp, and a drive cover, they could reach even very flat beaches. Up to 36 soldiers could be transported on the boat. It could carry small vehicles like off-road cars, about 12 soldiers, and 3.6 tons of cargo. The landing craft could reach speeds of up to 12 knots (14 miles per hour, 22 km/h). The boat was armed with two machine guns operated by two gunners.
